Looking Back on 2022

I know it has been a while since 2023 has started, but I’m doing it this year as well. To start off with, I’m very surprised that this year has been this quick and I can’t believe that it is already 2023. For me 2022 was the year that I got to realize more about who I was as a person. I got to understand myself in multiple ways, but for example, I understood my mental strengths and weaknesses, my personality more, and something not on a serious note I got to understand more precisely what I love. Also, for me my mental health suffered very much in the latter half of 2022. I will not get into much detail here, but with my academics, personality, and new lifestyle and city, my mental health took a downward turn. So my goal for 2023 is definitely at least to finish with a better mindset. Mental and physical health should be a priority for everyone. For everyone how was 2022 as a year?

So, let’s start to go through the months. I was still in Japan for the first half of 2022, so my image was very much COVID-19. Also, I went on a trip in December of 2021 to the north of Kyoto so I really didn’t go anywhere in January. February was the same as January.

In March I started a new semester at university, so I was struggling with juggling between my part-time job and studying. I went to see the cherry blossoms with my mother from the latter half of March to early April. Since moving to Kyoto, me and my mother have been taking the advantage of living in Kyoto and the fact that the number of tourists not being as crazy as before COVID-19, and have been taking our time visiting places. So, carrying on from the autumn leaves in 2021, we enjoyed the cherry blossoms in spring. We went to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Hirano Shrine, Nanzenji Shrine, and Keage Incline spread over several days. All of them are very famous for cherry blossoms but especially Keage Incline is somewhere I would recommend. If you want to take a picture without anyone, I recommend you to go early in the morning. However, if you are willing to change the angle of view, it was fine for me to go in the afternoon. (Please see my Instagram for any pictures.)

Also, March was the time that I finished my lessons for the tea ceremony that started back in October 2021. Since I moved to Kyoto I wanted to start something very Japanese style, so I started learning it with my mother. It was something that I would never regret since I got to learn etiquette and some Japanese ethics. Because I already knew that I was going back to Australia in a few months, I decided not to continue it but it is something that I will like to pick up when I’m older.

In April  I went back to Tokyo and saw Miyako-Odori in Kyoto. When I went back to Tokyo, I was able to go to Tokyo Disney Sea. I really wanted to go there during their 15th anniversary event and shows, so I was very happy that I was very happy to go. This year Tokyo Disney Land is going to be celebrating its 40th anniversary, so I would like to go, but I don’t know if I will be able to. Also, April was the month I took out my wisdom tooth. I knew that I had to take them out for a while, but I put them away for so long. It didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would, but I was so nervous and got a swollen cheek.

In May my friends from middle and high school came to Kyoto to meet me. I got to experience many things for the first time, we borrowed yukata (a traditional Japanese summer clothing piece) and took a walk around Kiyomizu-temple, went on a hand-pulled rickshaw in Arashiyama, climbed to the top of Inari Mountain behind the famous Fushimi Inari. Especially wearing yukata or kimono with my friends was on my bucket list, so I was very excited about that. Also, I was very happy and considered myself very lucky that I had a friendship that has lasted for a long time since me going abroad tends to take a toll on friendship. Also, my aunt came from Tokyo to visit the family grave. In Shiga we went to a cafe called “Club Harie”, and then went to Heian-Jingu and Kennin Temple in Kyoto.

In June I went on a trip to the Shikoku area of Japan as an early summer vacation with my parents. I was only able to go to the northeast part of Shikoku, so I would love to go to the places that I couldn’t manage to go to this time in the near future. However, I was able to go to the Otsuka Museum of Art and Himeji Castle when I came back to the main island. Also, after a long time I drove on this trip and I was glad that my driving skills hadn’t declined. In addition, my departure to Australia was already decided in July, so I went back to Tokyo for the last time. For this time, I also went to Utsunomiya where my father’s side relatives live. Then I went to Tokyo where my aunt treated me to a Cartier watch as a very early graduation present.

July was the month I departed for Australia, so I did everything I wanted to do in Japan. We went to an Italian restaurant called “Il Ghiottone” for a late birthday celebration for my mom and an early birthday celebration for me. I was able to properly dress up after a long time so I was ecstatic about the opportunity. I also went to Suzumushi Temple where I wanted to go to for a while. This temple is very famous because of the rumor that whatever you wish for will come true. (They haven’t come true yet.) Then, I departed for Australia. I used Jet Star from Narita to Cairns, so I used the 3rd terminal of Narita International Airport. This was my first time using that specific terminal and I was surprised by how it looked.

August is my birth month, and it was actually my first time spending my birthday alone. Even if we didn’t celebrate my birthday on the exact day, I will still be with my parents so being alone was a very weird experience for me. However, they paid me a visit at the end of August to Cairns and we spent summer vacation there. For our family, our annual summer vacation will be a one-week to ten-day overseas trip before COVID happened. So, this trip to Cairns was the annual customs coming back after 3 years. However, for me it was a domestic trip since I was already in Australia, so it was a little bit disappointing in that sense. Although I enjoyed myself very much because I got to do things that felt like I was on a real vacation like riding horses, playing golf, hiking, and relaxing by the poolside. Even though it was winter in Cairns, it was still warm enough to enjoy the pool comfortably.

From September nothing really happened because I was studying and I was alone for most of the time. However, in September, I fell in love with Formula One and more specifically Charles Leclerc a Scuderia Ferrari driver. Now I don’t even remember why I fell in love with it but with the new season just starting I am so excited. In October, I started working in a restaurant. I am so glad that I was able to find this job, which is somewhat related to my future goal and my current studies. So, my goal is to make connections and learn as much as I can here. November was a month that I really have nothing to write about.

In December I went back to Japan for Christmas and New Year’s. I landed in Japan a little bit before Christmas, and it was my first time using Kansai International Airport. Then in just a few days, I went to Utsunomiya and Tokyo to meet my relatives. We didn’t do anything special for Christmas or New Year’s, we just stayed home and enjoyed each other’s company, ate my mom’s food, and maybe drank too much alcohol and watched TV. For Christmas cake this year we bought it from Fauchon Hotel Kyoto and it was so delicious. This trip to Japan has been posted on my Instagram as a reel, so please enjoy that as well.

So this concludes my 2022. There were a lot of dramatic ups and downs mentally in 2022, there are some things that I haven’t written here that I experienced this year. With me working this year and being able to have more money for myself, I would of course love to do some shopping but also invest my money in experiences or trips in 2023. I would love to put up a review of 2023 next year as well, and I would like to see some good changes when I’m writing it. What was your favorite memory of 2022? For me it will probably be my summer vacation in Cairns.

What is in My iPhone

This week I’m going to show you the apps inside my phone. I have a lot of apps, so I’m only going to show you a few of them. First of all my phone spec is an iPhone 11 in a lavender color, in 64Gb. I am happy with all of the apps and how I have put them on my screen as of right now. I have a few apps that I haven’t been using but I have been keeping them there for a reason.

1.SNS Apps

I don’t have all my SNS apps in one folder so it’s a little bit hard to see but I have all the basics to some I need for university. I don’t think I need to explain “Instagram”, “Twitter”, “Facebook” to you so I’m going to skip them. All of the Microsoft apps and “Messenger” are for university. “RED” is a Chinese version of Instagram and the SNS I’ve been most loving recently. Also I have loved “Pinterest” for a long time so please follow me over there as well. (@lisa_heidi)

2.Camera and Edit Apps

I take all of my photos for Instagram with my iPhone or an SLR camera. I know it is better to take all of them with an SLR camera, but sometimes I don’t have it with me or it is too much effort to take it out. I normally take my photos with the normal camera but I sometimes use apps. I have used many apps but I have settled down with “SNOW”, “SODA”, “Ulike” because I like the filters of those apps. For editing, I normally use “VSCO” and “Lightroom” for photos I took at night or with an SLR camera. The app in the middle called “Grid” is an app that shows you how your Instagram feed is going to look like. I normally edit my photos to look like what they were in real life but I use this app to get a good look at my overall feed.

3.Game Apps

I play some games every day and these 8 are the ones that have stayed with me after downloading and trying so much. I have been playing “Tsum Tsum” for more than 5 years and I still play it every day. I also play “Nonogram.com” and “Spider” daily since there is a daily challenge for both apps. There also is an app called “Township” and I also play that every day. Anything other than that I play when I have time to kill, so I don’t use it often these days.

4.Shopping Apps

I have quite the variation of shopping apps and I look at them even when I don’t have any shopping to do. I use “Starbucks” pretty often and I shop at “ZARA” online once probably every season. I only buy things I can wear season after season. For “MUJI” and “UNIQLO”, I buy at the stores usually so I use the apps to redeem points. For luxury shopping “Net-a-porter” or “Farfetch” is my choice, and I use them for trend research and to kill time. I used to buy the majority of my cosmetics at Ginza Six so I have the “GSIX” app.

5.Other Apps

I have quite the variety of apps on my phone so there are a lot of apps I haven’t explained. “Tabelog” which is a restaurant app in Japan is something I started using after moving to Kyoto. “Nikkei” is the app I use to check the news. I have some apps that manage how many calories I take in every day and a one that records books I want to read next and have read. I have so many apps other than this, so if you have any apps that interest you, please let me know.

Maybe you have noticed already, but some apps have not been installed fully. Those apps are apps I haven’t been using recently but still want to keep on my phone. I do look through my phone once every three months and declutter thoroughly. At that time I go through my photos and take some photos to my Google Photo as well. Because I use my phone every day, like a lot of people, I try to keep my phone beautiful and user-friendly in my perspective at any time.

My Ideal Weekend

This week I’m going to introduce you to my ideal weekend. Now I do all my university classes online, there is no big difference between weekdays and weekends, but I’m going to write about my ideal weekend not regarding COVID-19. So I haven’t been able to spend this ideal weekend in a while but I hope I can soon. Please keep in mind I don’t spend this kind of weekend every week and it’s just my ideal one. (Usually, I lie on the couch and spend my day on my phone.)

Sleep In

Because it’s the weekend I would like to sleep in. I usually sleep at around 2AM everyday so I would like to wake up at around 10AM. (I just watch YouTube and play around on my PC so I’m not busy. There are times that I am studying though…) For me sleeping in until around noon feels like a waste of my day. So I would like to wake up the latest at 11AM.

Eat Brunch

I live with my family now so I actually eat breakfast and not eat lunch, but my ideal will be to eat brunch. In our house we have bread for the weekdays and rice for weekends but I would love to eat pancakes and Eggs Benedict as my brunch. Off course it is great to make your own brunch, but it is also good to eat something that you got the day before. I would like to watch YouTube, Netflix, or some TV while getting my brunch ready and eating.

From here on we will have two patterns.

Taken from Pinterest

Go Out

The first pattern is when I go out. I would like to finish eating at around 11:30 and start getting ready. I would like to do makeup I can’t do on weekdays, challenge on some hair arrangement, and enjoy taking time to make myself more beautiful and confident. I would like to finish at around 12:30 and head to my destination of the day. Normally for shopping I go to Ginza or Shinjuku and I will go to Omotesando or Ginza when I’m going to meet a friend. I normally shop alone, so I window shop by myself and take my time. When I’m going out with my friend, we just wander around and go to a cafe to talk. Often I come home at the latest around 5:30 and study or lounge around until dinner.

Lounge Around at Home

The second pattern is when I lounge around at home. What I do will differ day by day, but I will introduce you to what I normally do. The first thing is study. As I wrote in my last blog, I want to learn a new language and get some new qualifications, so I would like to study for that. I normally study at home for the sake of saving some money and I rather make my own coffee or tea. But I do sometimes go to my local cafe. The other thing I do is watch YouTube or Netflix and do some self-maintenance. I normally do my nails or study new makeup technique or take a bath and do some self-care.

Dinner

My family don’t go out for dinner in the weekdays nor weekends, and my mom makes dinner at home everyday. For my family, dinner time is the time when we come together, we always have some music going on in the background and talk about our week. After dinner, our family tackles the dishes all together and at around 9:00 we watch TV. When we watch one show, we turn the TV off and go on to do what we like individually. I normally lounge on the couch and have fun on my phone or read a book.

Sleep

At around 11:00 my mom heads to bed, so I start my night time routine around that time to head to my room at around midnight. I have already posted my night time routine so please go and have a look at that. Not much has changed from that and I go back to my room, and PC time starts. I normally do email checks, blog writing, or online window shopping unless there is no immediate deadlines, I enjoy things unrelated to my study. Then at around 1:30 to 2:00, I go to bed and check my phone for 10 minutes before going to sleep.

This is the end of my ideal weekend. This week’s blog was long but I hope you enjoyed it and thank you to the people who made it this far. It is a rare case when I actually get to spend this ideal weekend, so it has a lot of what I would like it to be. Also, it will differ when I live alone so I would like to get you an updated version when that happens. Next week I would like to upload my goals for my first trimester of 2021. It has been a while since I’ve uploaded anything related to uni or study, so please be excited.

What’s in My Small Handbag

I think it’s a little bit too late for the party season, but when ever I have a party or a dinner to go to I always use a small handbag. For me some of my small handbags are like accessory but I always put in my essentials. So, today I would like to show you what is in my small bag. I will start with my essentials and then go into things I would bring when I have more room.

Card Case

I carry a card case with me at all times. Inside there are two cards, my identification card, band-aid, and a 5000 yen bill. The places I go with my small bags are mostly where card payment is available, so I don’t carry around cash that much. However, Japan isn’t completely cashless so I carry a 5000 yen bill with me. If I’m going somewhere really far I might carry a 10000 yen bill. My mother once told me that “You should carry around the amount of money that you need to get back home from where you are by taxi in cash.” so I always carry around whatever I need.

Lipstick

I always carry around the lipstick that I put on that day. I already have shared with you my night-out makeup so please and go take a look at that. (10/27) I normally choose a bright-coloured lipstick, but I choose the colour by two patterns. The two are, choosing them after doing my makeup and looking at the balance or by choosing it first and then doing my makeup. If I have some room in my bag, I will also carry around a lipstick or gloss that has a different texture to the one I have on.

Powder

My foundation around my nose area tend to smudge a little so a powder is a necessity, even if it’s just a night out. Normally I bring my powder foundation from Dior, but sometimes I will bring my Les Beiges Powder from Chanel. I also check if there is a good mirror on the powder since I will use that for touching up my lips.

Hand Cream

Of course I have a hand cream with me in the winter, but I also will have it with me even in the summer time. If I have a big bag I will bring my Ohana Mahaalo or Miss Dior, but I will have a small hand cream from L’occitane when it’s my small bag. The one that I’m using currently is an amenity of the ANA business class, which my father got on his business trip. But normally I will have a 30ml one that I bought or received as a present.

Handkerchief

I think it is an etiquette to carry around a handkerchief with you at all time. I normally carry around a towel handkerchief but I will bring a normal handkerchief when it doesn’t fit. I don’t own as much normal handkerchief because you need to iron it every time. I like cute towel handkerchiefs, so I buy a lot from Jill Stuart and Disney. I choose from my collection according to where I’m going, how I’m feeling, and the outfit I have on that day.

From here is what I would bring when I have a little bit more space in my bag.

Small Wallet

If I have some space I will always bring my small wallet from Dior with me. It is a very beautiful colour and I’m very glad that I was able to buy it in such colour. However, I love my long wallet so much because of how convenient it is for me and I will continue using it even though small wallets are trending right now, I don’t have that much chances to use it so, I would love to use my small wallet whenever I get the chance to do so.

Mirror

One side of the small round mirror is a regular mirror and the other side is a magnifying mirror. I use a mirror whenever I want to touch up on my lips and to look if my jewelries are on the right way. I can use the mirror on my powder but it looks more formal and impolite, so I tend to have a mirror.

This is all I have in my small bag. The keys for my house is together with my PASMO (transportation electronic IC card) and I have it with my phone. I also don’t own any cars so I don’t have a key case or anything similar to that. I usually carry my phone in my hand or have it in my pocket. I love having my small bag with me, because I feel more feminine and put together when I have a small bag. Do you have anything that you can’t leave your house without? Mine would be phone and card case. I also might have a black pen with me from time to time.

I will have another post coming up probably around midnight (Japan time) with my 2019 round up, which will be me going through memories of this year.

Favourite Stationary

Maybe I have said this in the past, but I love stationary. I haven’t bought quite as much as I used to, but I used to buy so much. I have loved stationary since I was really little and have started to figure out what I prefer and use. So, I would like to share my favourite stationaries. This is based on my preference so just take it as an advice.

Uni: Kuru Toga

I have only used kuru toga when I use a mechanical pencil for the last 5 years. I love how the thinness of the lead, the depth of black, and the pressure is always the same. I have used many mechanical pencils over the years but this is proudly No.1 and it is probably in the hall of fame. I have 4 of them, and 3 of the 4 are collaborations with Disney. The 3 designs are all so cute and it adds to the love to this range.

Uni: Style Fit

I think I have been using this pen from when I was in grade 6. There are a lot of customizable pens on the market but this one is my favourite. The colour, finish, touch, and feel are all the best for my preference. I choose the 0.34 thickness because I have found out that this is the best for me. Because you can choose the colour, I set the colours according to what I need at that time. Because I like having so many colours I carry around a 5-colour and a 3-colour holder. This also has a collaboration with Disney, so I change the cover regularly.

Uni: Uni-ball Signo

This is the single colour pen, I have been using for about 5 years in the colour pink and black. I have them both in the 0.34 thickness. (BTW, I have been using the SARASA black pen in 0.5 for about 10 years.) Black and pink are the colours I use the most so I have them in the singles. I chose this range because I love the finish and colour. This pen is very similar to the Style Fit, but I didn’t choose the singles in that range because I was afraid I was going to loose them easily. When I run out of the pink and there isn’t any spares, I panick a little bit.

Zebra: Mildliner

This is a highlighter, but not in the fluorescent colour and is gentle to the eyes. I love the pastel colour so much, so I have used it for the past 4 years and haven’t really thought about wanting to change them recently. I love the feel and the fact that it will never blur as well. Although you can’t see where you are highlighting, I don’t mind it as much because I rarely highlight places I don’t need to.

So, this is the end of my favourite stationary. These days, I have been buying stocks of these. However, I check whatever has been launched recently so I buy some items even though I don’t need any more. On the other hand, I have slowly been able to know what I prefer and will use, so I don’t buy any items that I buy but don’t use. There are so many more stationaries that I have and love so I might share them in the future. I hope this blog is to any use to anyone out there, that is going to start a new year with new stationaries. Because it actually gets me hyped and excited!

Morning Routine

This week I am going to share my morning routine. This differs from when I have something to do that day or not, so I will share with you two types then. For me how I spend my mornings determine how I feel the whole day and my attitude toward that day. So I try to be careful how my mornings are spend.

Get Up

First of all we need to get out of bed. Japan is actually going in to the colder months, which getting out of bed gets harder and harder everyday because of the warmth of your comforter. I use an app called “Sleep Cycle” on my iPhone and the alarm goes off when is the easiest to wake up between the designated 15 minutes. I feel like it has actually changed how I feel when I wake up and how easy it is for me. Then I sit on my bed and stretch, which is a signal for my body to actually wake up and start a new day.

Skincare Ⅰ

Morning skincare is a must because it is important to get rid of all the dirt and the residue of your nighttime skincare. However, it is not good to get rid of too much sebum so I choose the right detergency for my skin. I normally use the Kiehl’s whitening scrub for summer and the Dior snow line face wash for winter. After I towel dry my face gently, I use the Aqualabel whitening lotion and push that in my skin about 2-3 times. I put in my contacts while my lotion is sinking in to the skin and use the Aqualabel whitening emulsion. I have very poor vision so I put in regular contacts everyday. Then I put some hair mist into my hair and brush the knots out. This is the end of my morning skincare for now.

Change & Breakfast

I prepare my breakfast and go back to my own room to change. Then I eat breakfast, which is bread for weekdays and rice for the weekend. My mother sets the table for the weekend except for my drink, but I have to do everything for the weekdays myself. I try to take seasonal fruit as much as I can. My drink of choice is ice milk tea for the summer and milk tea or cafe au lait for the winter. I scroll through SNS or watch TV while eating breakfast for the weekdays and enjoy some time with my parents for the weekends. What I wear when I am in my house is pretty whatever so I am trying to dress better. I will make sure to share them with you guys when the right time comes.

Skincare Ⅱ

I then do the part 2 of my morning skincare. First I start with brushing my teeth, while I do this I try to fit some small fitness. Then I put on sunscreen and I always put it on even when I know I’m not going out. This is because you can get sunburn from the blue light from PC screens and the sun light from your window. If I feel like I want more firmness I will put on some cream from Kiehl’s before my sunscreen. From here it will change if I have something to do or not.

When I was somewhere in Italy

When I have somewhere to go

I go straight back to my room and start doing makeup. I have no daily makeup that I go to, so I do my makeup according to how I feel that day. Also, I try to put an outfit together in my head while doing my base makeup. So, I will also do my makeup according to my outfit or where I’m going. How I pick out an outfit is very different from time to time so I will share my tips and tricks with you in the near future. (I think I have about 5 types.) Then I change into the outfit I chose and go do my hair. I normally put it up in a half up or leave it as it is because I’m not that good at curling my own hair. Then, I choose my bag, put everything I need in it, and put on my accessories. The last thing I do before going out is put on lips and then I’m out the door.

When I don’t have anything to do

I go straight from the washroom to the sofa and dive in to SNS. It normally starts from insta, goes to twitter and then lastly I end up playing some games that I’m into. I will force myself to end it at around 11-12 and around that time my battery will be running out as well. Then, I go back to my room and do what I need to do for the day which is normally writing a blog post or reading some books or studying.

This is the end of my morning routine. Of course, I don’t do this every morning but I try to make a flow in my morning so that I have a good start to my day everyday. It has also made me not feeling as gloomy when I wake up. I also feel that I am more productive when I kind of go with this morning routine. To some people’s surprise making a morning routine might actually gain you some extra minutes of sleep. I always make sure that I am not rushed during my morning routine. (Even though, I am rushing out the door often.) As always it has been a long one so thank you so much for reading all the way.
